An electric bicycle refers to a vehicle that uses a battery as an auxiliary energy source on the basis of an ordinary bicycle, and is equipped with operating components such as a motor, a controller, a battery, a handlebar, and a display instrument system.
On May 16, 2018, the newly revised "Safety Technical Specifications for Electric Bicycles" was approved for release. On August 25, the transition period from August 1, 2018 to April 14, 2019 was changed from the management of production licenses for electric bicycle industrial products to mandatory product certification. From May 1, 2019, "non-standard" electric bicycles that have not applied for a temporary logo are not allowed to drive on the road. From August 1, 2020, the "Specifications for After-sales Service of Electric Bicycles" will be implemented.
From August 1, 2021, the "Regulations on Fire Safety Management of High-Rise Civil Buildings" will come into force. From November 1, only compliant electric bicycles with license plates can be driven on the road.
As of December 2022, the social ownership of electric bicycles in China has reached 350 million, and the annual output has exceeded 35 million, ranking first in the world.
